Foreign Affairs

In honor of me completely kicking ass at Duolingo in my first real attempt since 2nd grade to learn French, here's a little spread of photos that give me the scent of that crisp European air that we all crave

Please, please, please

Can I just tell you how badly I want my boyfriend to steal these shoes from his mom

I think,

I really, really enjoy making collages on Paint. I'm going to try to get started on some film photo shoots I've had brainstorming up there along with developing a couple rolls. I want to start posting more personal outfits and trend posts along with documenting shows and things like that I'm attending. So look out, more fun to come, I'm just really starting to get the hang of this...slow and steady process but I'm actually looking to make this thing grow and stick to it.

Just a lil

killing time, browsing saved pictures on my phone from Urban Outfitters, Instagram, and on.

The Hillsboro Antique Mall

Ok, we all love a good thrift store find. I make my rounds at the Goodwills, random small thrift stores, and consignment shops that are sporadically placed in South Florida. But never, have I ever been to a place like The Hillsboro Antique Mall. It basically is made of rows and rows of rented out spaces filled with vintage clothes, furniture, accessories, random home décor, old knick-knacks...everything. And the mix of all the different vendors makes for a crazy amount of goods anywhere from the 1800s to now and it's fucking awesome. I can't say it any less intensely, it's fucking awesome. There has to be a billion different things in that place, filled glass cases and piles of items everywhere. The prices vary as the vendors price them but you can tell some of them are definitely undervaluing their vintage Gucci purses. I never buy a lot from there, last time though I did find a vintage Christian Dior neck/head scarf I plan to use for both and purses for $8 that I really adore, but other than that I honestly just love walking around the place. Every single item there is coming from someone's life from the 30's or 50's or 70's, anything, and you really can't know and can't find out. All you do is walk around trying to think who was wearing this, what were they doing, did they buy this piece with their first boyfriend, or what was it like living in a time when the cover of a teen magazine had The Beatles on it (there's this one booth of just old newspapers and magazines, ugh) ? So yeah, the place rules exponentially and gives you the wildest feeling, it's like a hidden secret and I hope to make it a little less of that by sharing it here. My phone was sadly going to die so I only caught a couple photos but there's a glimpse at the chaos and my scarf

SPREAD: Paint Strokes

just a little abstract doing of mine

I love any sort of risk taking in fashion, especially when it's one really standout, out of the box piece and if it can include some sort of creative expression, well then I love it even more. I just really like a risk taker in fashion that at the same time doesn't need to scream at you with what they're doing, a dark lipstick, statement choker, sheer item of clothing, I like it all subtle but loud. So I've noticed a bit of an influx of more artistic makeup in runway and editorial and I'm interested in the real life translation of the artistic face accessory. I think a white or colored eye shadow/liner is a good way of doing this at home but I like this the more creative it is.

Monochromatic Layers

Just a little street style for your viewing pleasure, bulky layers are always good with me

SPREAD: High Contrast

Okay! So I'm excited cause I kind of figured out a new type of post I'll be doing called "SPREAD" where I'll have some sort of theme or idea I've been drawn to and do a nice bulk post of photos fitting that. So here's "High Constrast", cause who doesn't love a good black and white...

Inspiration in strange places

A few days ago I got outfit inspiration from an Asian man working at Penn Dutch, a grocery store, that was wearing a denim button down under a dark crew neck sweatshirt. Yeah...I mean I'm a pretty big fan of the crewneck sweatshirt look or lack there of, with menswear inspired pants or black slim skinnies and a nice pair of shoes but the circumstances of this inspiration was funny. Collars also are something I like once Fall/Winter seasons start to come around, a top button on a pretty girl is *insert thumbs up here* So anyway, here's my blue collared inspired look, thank you mister...

Destruction of the disgusting, ugly hate: A Review of Soko

Drippy Eye Projections light projector
Soko and her band at The Bubble, Fort Lauderdale
Andrew Max at the projector, Sweet Bronco performing
So the boy I'm dating used to be part of Drippy Eye Projections which basically creates liquid light backgrounds for shows and every now and then he still helps out with them which relates and benefits to me because I find out about shows that I may not have otherwise. I really hadn't heard of the singer Soko (Stéphanie Sokolinski) but shelled out the ten dollars to see her and a few other bands first at The Bubble in Ft.Lauderdale that she repeatedly called "Fart Lauderdale" in her French accent, and a couple days later at Propaganda in Lake Worth, that she used to tell us to make the night "lake worth it." Well it's almost a week later and I've had her album, I Thought I Was An Alien, on repeat. "First Love Never Die" and "Just Want to Make it New With You" are my favorites. She has an awesome stage presence with a hell of a lot of audience participation, having a girl dance topless with you on stage or calling me and my boyfriend out for making out and making her jealous are only a few things, as well as repeatedly yelling at everyone to shut up for her more somber songs. She's got an intensity to her music as well as a dance and 80's infused punk vibe that makes for a great show experience and audio wise and I really wish I would start bringing a better camera to these things...
