What I'm scoping: The ill-fit jean

I've been spying with my little eye a bit of a lean to thicker denim, wider ankles and looser fits. It's a total nod to the 90's which is in full force right now as the children of that decade come into their own. Not to stray from the appeal of a perfect second skin, stretch-blend denim but I'm starting to think that there's nothing sexier than a girl that can pull of something not so obvious and try a little looser of a fit. In the industry right now I'd say these are getting classified as the "Mom jean" which is where I've scored my pair from at the moment. As opposed to I think the more accepted "Boyfriend jean", I prefer the higher rise that these have. I think slowly this trend will be becoming more widespread through looser fits through the bottom which is in part due to the thickness of the denim. I'm always going to be a fan of the less obvious choices in fashion, the things that make you go "Huh?" and I think these are a perfect way to get that into ones wardrobe. I'd pair them with any sort of cropped top, casual or not, or go the opposite way and play off the ill-fit with something big and loose with an awesome pair of shoes into the mix to bring in the "fashion" aspect.

Some people that I think are doing this right:
Danielle Bernstein, blogger from WeWoreWhat shows them with slides and a sheer top. Ali Michael, model, who I for one thinks has a perfect effortlessly cool style wears them frequently. And of course, the perfect Candice Swanepoel pairs an American Apparel crop and sandals for a sexy and sweet ensemble.

An intro to myself

Me, wearing vintage dress. Gainesville. Shot by Andrew Max.
To start, I figured an introduction was in line. My name is Veronica Zavel and I'm twenty years old. I'm currently residing in South Florida but came here when I was ten from New York where I'll be finally coming home to live late this year or early next. I'm halfway to a Fashion Merchandising or Photography degree and really hope to just make myself a place in the world of fashion photography. I'm highly interested in styling and the creative directing side of photography. I dabble behind the camera and its a fit that feels quite great. Any way I can style an image through clothing, composition, emotion and lighting is an artistic outlet for me and my true passion. I'm a painter as well who goes through hot and cold phases but that's my true therapy. I'm not sure how I'd describe my style but this blog will hopefully fill that request. I'll keep this short and sweet so thanks for the read!

This is Our Kind, welcome!

Hello to all! This is the first post to a fresh blog I'm beginning to work on. I'm super excited to bring you, Our Kind. Our Kind to me represents a certain type of being. The ones who are true to themselves, they're the risk-takers especially among fashion, following their guts and often the people who present the trends before they hit the commercial forefront. The ones who know their passions and have faith for themselves in those. The artistic, the gritty, we're all here. I think the name more so speaks for itself but a bit of explanation in the beginning seems necessary. My hope for this blog is to create an outlet for the spurts of style my brain encounters. The types of posts I plan to include are trend predicting, street style/style watch (hopefully I'll be shooting some myself), key items and where to find them, outfit pin boards, beauty, photo shoots, artists/music/shows on my mind, DIY, and people that are inspiring me stylistically, and of course a whole lot more! I won't give away too much but I'm very excited to start this project and the ones that this can be foundation for. I hope you all keep visiting and enjoy! And just remember, in the end we're all Our Kind, xo.
